Tasty Dumpling is one of the few restaurants in Chinatown serving authentic Beijing style dumplings, savory pancakes, noodles with soup, and various cold dishes. You can choose from boiled or pan fried dumplings made with pork, chicken, shrimp or vegetables. With just one dollar ($1.00), you can buy FIVE of their signature Chive & Pork Fried Dumplings. With $1.75, you can fill up on Pancake with Beef; a savory golden pancake, topped with sesame, stuffed with marinated beef, carrot, caraway, green onion and sauce. Everything is handmade with the freshest ingredients. You’ll never find MSG in their products, and they believe that oil and sugar should be used sparingly. That philosophy shines through in their most popular product, the Vegetable Dumpling. It is filled with Shanghai cabbage, cabbage, carrot, agarics, mushroom, and vermicelli for a total of 6 ingredients (7 in the winter, when they add tofu); most restaurants offer only two or three ingredients.
Tasty Dumpling is the sister restaurant of the Dumpling House, and although they are similar, they are different enough to make each unique. Tasty Dumpling offers a quaint seating area, cleaner surroundings and a nicer décor, but lacks the sizzling action of the Dumpling House’s open kitchen. Both serve high quality, traditional, home-made Beijing-style dumplings at unbelievable prices. The Wall Street Journal took notice and featured Tasty Dumpling on their list of “Top 10 Underrated Spots” in 2003. Expect a long line around lunch time, but it is well worth the wait. If you don’t have the time, Tasty Dumpling offers catering and frozen dumplings at wholesale prices.
