Encased behind a glass counter, you’ll see the largest almond cookies in Chinatown. There’s no other place that makes them as large and as tasty as Nom Wah does. Long-time customers from 20, 30, 40 years ago continue to come back to buy not only the almond cookies, but also to order from their large delectable selections of dim sum, which are freshly made on the premises and brought out on a platter. Regulars swear by their signature Ha Gow (shrimp dumplings), Shew My (pork dumplings), and Char Shew Bow (Roast Pork Buns), which are scrumptious and must be tried to be believed. The atmosphere is relaxing and quiet--a perfect place for sampling traditional dim sum while sipping on a cup of brewed Oolong tea.
As if stepping into a time capsule, Nom Wah Tea Parlor remains as unchanged and timeless today as when it was first opened in 1920. Located on unique Doyers Street, Nom Wah is the oldest tea parlor in Chinatown, surviving almost 80 years of history and change. The interior is antiquated--filled with old wooden tables & chairs, patched-up red vinyl booths, and worn-out electric fans. There’s even an entire shelf of ancient-looking tea canisters. Because of its old fashion facade, numerous movies, shows, and commercials, including clips from "Spiderman," "Third Watch" and many others have been filmed inside and outside this traditional tea parlor establishment.
