Vegetarian Dim Sum House

The Food:

Vegetarian Dim Sum House serves vegetarian dim sum all day, and does an amazing job at it. The dim sum dishes are all listed on a mini menu checklist and made to order. Some favorites are the Mini Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaves, the Mini Vegetarian Spring Rolls, and the Vegetarian Mock Shrimp Dumplings. If you’re looking for a hardier meal, they have a regular menu that lists their family style dishes. Although it is composed entirely of vegetarian dishes, meat eaters need not fear, for a lot of the dishes are made with ‘mock’ meat. They make everything from Sesame Chicken to Lo Mein. Recommended is the ‘Capital Chicken,’ a delectable combination of two kinds of tofu and mixed vegetables. For vegetarians and meat eaters alike, this place is a welcome addition to Chinatown cuisine.

The Atmosphere:

The décor in Vegetarian Dim Sum House can be considered minimalist or non-existent, but that ties into the simple straightforward theme that runs throughout the establishment. The restaurant is brightly lit with pale green walls; the art is limited to a few choice pieces including one Chinese scroll that runs the length of the left hand wall as you enter. For what it lacks in atmosphere, the food more then compensates. If there’s a wait for tables, you’ll probably see the waitress making fresh fruit shakes at the front counter. The food is made to order, and if you don’t see it on the menu, the chef will try to whip it up for you. The clientele is diverse and this is one of the few restaurants in Chinatown where you might actually be able to hear the conversation at your table. This is a simple, quiet place that serves great vegetarian food.
