Neighborhood Faces
December 2015

Welcome to Explore Chinatown's first edition of Neighborhood Faces, where we'll interview interesting people who have grown up, live and have businesses in the historic, diverse and vibrant neighborhood of Chinatown and its surrounding areas.

Meet Karen Huie, an actor/writer/filmmaker/photographer who by necessity sleeps little. Karen has won critical acclaim for her portrayal of Madame Mao Tse Tung in THE CHAIRMAN'S WIFE at East West Players in Los Angeles. In New York, she acted at La Mama Experimental Theatre Club. Her film acting credits include CROSSROADS, ANOTHER 48 HOURS and WILD BILL. She has worked in hundreds of films and television shows as a voice actor, and been a dialect coach to actors including Bai Ling, Jackie Chan, Mark Wahlberg, and Liv Tyler.

Karen had the rare opportunity to receive a television pilot deal without having prior sitcom writing experience for her play, SONGS OF HARMONY, the first Asian American sitcom pilot. YANKEE NOODLE DANDY, her most recent screenplay is about legendary cinematographer James Wong Howe.
