Snow Alert for Sun, 1/31, beginning at 7PM
|
|
Based
on current forecasts, the NYC Department of Sanitation expects snowfall
beginning Sunday evening, 1/31, and continuing to Tuesday morning,
2/2. Total accumulations in the forecast of up to 18 inches are
possible at this time.
NYC DOT is requiring partners to temporarily halt the execution of Open Streets and Open Streets: Restaurants
temporary street closures. Partners must secure all barricades,
signage, and other furniture and materials associated with Open Streets
and Open Streets: Restaurants by removing them from the street while
this alert is in effect. Alert will be in effect beginning today Sunday, 1/31 at 7PM. DOT will notify partners by email when Open Streets operations may resume.
Open Restaurants roadway dining is SUSPENDED all day Monday, 2/1.
Guidance for Open Restaurants: While
the Sanitation Department has trained to remove snow on streets with
Open Restaurant structures, restaurateurs must also take steps to
protect their patrons, staff and property:
- Use snow sticks to increase visibility.
- Regularly remove snow and ice from sidewalks; clear a path to the crosswalk, if applicable.
- Do not to block fire hydrants.
- It is illegal to push snow into the street. Snow may be placed at the curb line, against the building, or on private property.
NYC Emergency Management has issued a Hazardous Travel Advisory
for Monday 2/1 and Tuesday 2/2. Significant snow totals are expected
with sustained winds of 20 mph- 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. The
combination of heavy snow and gusty winds could cause blizzard like
conditions. Temperatures below freezing are expected on Monday and
Tuesday, which will result in the potential for continued dangerous road
conditions after the snow has ended.
New
Yorkers are advised to work remotely and refrain from unnecessary
travel. If travel is necessary, use mass transit where possible,
exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking, and allow for
additional travel time as roads may be slippery and visibility may be
low.
Reminder: Alternate Side Parking is suspended 2/1 and 2/2. Meters remain in effect.
